You Are the Hope!

Breast cancer is the leading female cancer in the world resulting in about 500,000 deaths each year. It is 100% curable if detected at early stages. Here comes the need to educate females especially of the younger age group for the importance of screening, as early detection improves treatment options.

On Wednesday the 6^th of November 2019 – AISG hosted a Breast Cancer awareness seminar, in coordination with IFMSA-Gaza, under “You Are the Hope” Project which is funded by PalMed France. The event was attended by female students in high and middle schools, accompanied by their parents, in addition to female staff members.

The day started with a presentation, which was delivered by Fayza Abu Merry, and Lana Al Sayegh, members of IFMSA-Gaza, on breast cancer symptoms, etiology and prevention methods.

After the presentation, attendees were given the chance to participate in Q&A session, in which they raised their concerns, asked questions and received answers by IFMSA-Gaza members and Dr. Subhi Skaik, a fellow colleague of the Royal British college of surgeons.

As for his part, Dr. Skaik talked about the critical importance of screening, as early detection improves treatment options for breast cancer.

the visit was concluded with an opportunity for optional clinical examination by Dr. Skaik at the school’s clinic.
